-
Children’s Center in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
World Link, in conjunction with the city of Ulaanbaatar, founded
a center for children which we continue to manage and fund.
The center provides support for 20-30 vulnerable children. This
includes weekday meals, education/skills training, clothing
and non-residential center.
Monthly costs for running this center: $375.00
(cost includes salaries for teacher and cook)
-
Orphanage/Kindergarten
in Darkhan, Mongolia
For the past 3 years World Link has been providing financial
support for an orphanage/residential kindergarten in Darkhan,
Mongolia which serves 100-120 children.
Monthly costs for the kindergarten: $1,200.00
-
Housing
(gers):
World
Link provides houses (gers) to qualified families. In Mongolian
no one can afford to be homeless because of the bitter cold
winters. Families who cannot afford gers are forced to live
underground. They enter through the manholes to the underground
tunnels where the hot water pipes carry water to the city. Entire
families live underground.
Cost for a ger: $500-$600 (furnished)
(The government provides the land)

Women’s
communal banks (micro-credit):
World Link works through organizations to provide funding, and
to establish women’s communal banks for small business
loans. The “banks” consist of 10 women, who each
develop their own business plan, but work together as a support
unit. Business, money management and savings training are provided.
Each woman may be eligible for up to 4 loans. The repayment
rate for the loans is 95%. Loans range from $75.00 to $125.00.
Costs to establish a woman’s bank: $1,000-$1,200
-
San
Nicolas Village Project (Sanitation, health and housing)
World Link provides support for the San Nicolas Village Project.
One hundred and nine Mayan families in the Alta Verapaz highlands
of Guatemala joined together in 2002 to form this rural village
formerly sustained by a coffee plantation. Immediate needs in
the first year of the project are the development of a sanitary
water system ($44,900) and constructing and equipping a health
center ($73,000). Physician services have already been secured.
