Let's Be Ready

The majority of rural poor Guatemalan children are ill prepared for the first grade. The February 2006 World Bank report indicates that 30% of children in the Central American countries fail the first grade: many drop out at this point. There are many reasons for this, often parents cannot read and write, children are needed to help at home, they may not have access to education, and formal education may not be a priority. Whatever the reasons, lack of education severely limits opportunity

Let's Be Ready provides preschool education to prepare Guatemalan children (who are primarily at high risk) for the first grade.  Their goal is to provide early positive learning experiences and training in order to establish a foundation for continued education.  Let's Be Ready works in conjunction with the various villages/communities that provide the classrooms.  Let's Be Ready provides salaries for teachers, training for teachers, costs of necessary remodeling and they are implementing meals for the children in all of the classes.

The first  preschool was established in 2008. In 2011 Let's Be Ready had classrooms in 20 communities.

Costs to establish one preschool: $2,400

World Link Partners primary role in the Let’s Be Ready project is the acceptance of donations (from their donors) in order to provide an income tax deduction.
