The purpose of this project is to teach Q’eqchi’ women to read and write and learn basic Spanish. In this geographical area an estimated 99%* of the women do not know how to read or write in their own language ( Q’eqchi), and an estimated 90%* do not speak Spanish, a necessity for isolated villagers who wish to market goods, and study or work outside of the local community.find out more
This project has been initiated to relieve the avoidable causes of disease and deaths due to malnutrition. A food supplement, Incaparina, replete with protein, iron, vitamins and minerals, is provided to children at high risk (under 5 years of age). There are plans to expand the supplements both to other villages and also to pregnant and lactating women.
This project provides small business loans - known as microfinance - to qualified women applicants. These loans provide financial opportunity for women to improve the quality of life for themselves and for their families.
